Manila Day 2 – Traffic, Trains, Traffic, Trikes, Traffic!

Today was out first day of adventuring in Manila. The plan is to take the train (very few trains in PH!) and go and visit Tita Edit. Here’s the view from the balcony in the daylight:

As you can see, it’s quite a beautiful view! We made our way downstairs (on the lift/elevator) and got into our taxi. Here’s is where I got my first experience of Manila traffic! It’s nuts! We must’ve travelled like 2km in about an hour! At least the taxi had good AC! We saw some really cool Jeepneys and Buses along the way, and some neat looking shops!

After our taxi ride, we wandered towards the train station. I saw a cool place called “Uncle John’s” which reminded me of my recently passed godfather (Uncle John) from home. Brought a smile to my face!

We made our way upstairs as it was time to get on the train! The train was really cool and fairly different to what we have in the UK. There’s little thought to accessibility here but it’s cheap and cheerful. It did get very busy though, at least all these people weren’t driving!

After a bumpy but pleasant ride, the worst was yet to come! We had a ride on a tricycle! When I say tricycle, it’s nothing fancy, it’s basically a motorcycle with a steel bar, a wheel and a bench attached to it, wrapped in sheet metal. There’s nothing in the way of passenger comfort nor safety here! It was good fun though, if very uncomfortable, especially once it got up to speed and I could feel every bump in every vertebrae!

Next up we took some shots in the field near Tita’s house.

It was amazing to meet Tita and her family. She is the widow of Nica’s Uncle/Tito and they were all lovely. Nica’s cousins and their kids were soo cute! Kindly they also offered us a ride back to the train station, no more cramped bike for us! By now it was dark too so we were grateful for the ride.

We made it home safely and went to bed. Tomorrow we’re planning on going to the MOA (Mall of Asia) so expect a busy day filled with adventures!
