Camiguin Day 1 – Swimming, Ruins, Cemetery

Our first morning on Camiguin we started bright and early. We have a lot planned and only a few days here so want to make the most of it. We woke up in the morning and were greeted by the local dog Bogbog, I gave him some food and he munched it down fairly quick!

Bogbog turned out to be a really cool after a bit of a barky start yesterday!

Edit: Bogbog turned out to be a regular visitor too! Look out for more of him in the coming days!

After saying “adto na mi” to Bogbog and packing our bags for the day, we made our way towards the Bura Soda Water pool. This is a natural occurance caused by the volcano apparently. The water is fresh, natural and safe to consume (not the bits you swim in!). We rented a picnic shed and spent a couple of hours enjoying the water.

After drying off a bit (didn’t take long in this heat!), we set off in the car again. This time we headed for a place called Tuasan Falls. As the name suggests, it’s a waterfall! It was truly beautiful and really loud.

The water was freezing, proper chilly! Probably not that bad but coming out from underground and in the shade, waaaay cooler than the air I’m growing accustomed to. We finished up with a shower and got back in the car and headed out again. On our way, we bumped into a couple of guys taking their horses for a walk; as you do!

We stopped off for some lunch and then made our way towards the ruins of an old church. This church was buried when the volcano erupted in the 1800s and the level you can see in the photos below is actually the 2nd floor we’re told. There’s also this beautiful old tree we got a photo inside. All credit for these shots goes to the tour guide, she was excellent at it!

Next stop on today’s adventures was at a place called Sunken Cemetery. Nica’s Mama Bernadette recommended we visit here. It’s a memorial to a cemetery that was buried in a volcanic eruption. There’s a rope/boat out to the actual monument itself, but the wait was too long for us to do today. Maybe next time! We still got some amazing shots from the local guide, salamat kaayo!

This place was amazing, some really great shots again; I would have loved to see what the sunset was like from here!

After this we headed to Mambajao’s Gaisano Mall to do some shopping. Today was our Monthsary so we had a date night! We got dressed up in matching outfits and we shared promise rings which you’ll likely see throughout future posts! Kilig jud ta duha! This was my promise to Nica that I’d be back soon and that I was fully committed to her, and she to me. Gwapa kaayo!

This is all from today, we had lovely food and spent the evening chilling with Netflix while Bogbog ran around outside. See you tomorrow!
